From ‘The Venus Collection’
The inspiration for this neckpiece came from this story: St. Bridget was the founder of the first
monastery in Ireland at the end of the 5th century.
A college where language and literacy were treated as
a gift from God. When she passed her body was
interred at her church in Kildare, where her memory
was honoured by keeping a fire forever burning.
Hence the church was known as the House of Fire,
until in 1220 “to take away all occasion of super-
stition,” it was ordered that the fire to be
extinguished. Bridget’s Fire was not extinguished.
Her sacred fire is held within the spoken and written
Irish word Teas (jass), meaning in English, heat,
excitement, vigour, and the passion of high spirits.
So, in this piece we keep this flame and all its
meaning alive and burning for ever!
